Community & City News

  • Veterans Honored: West Haven recently held its annual rites and tributes to honor city veterans, including a ceremony and the dedication of new Vietnam Veterans Memorial panels.
  • School Improvements: The Savin Rock Community School is set to receive a complete roof replacement as part of the school system's capital improvements.
  • Community Events: Preparations are underway for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, a four-decade-long tradition. The West Haven High School Theater Workshop is also rehearsing its fall production of "Almost Maine!".
  • City Certification: West Haven was awarded the Bronze certification for sustainability by the statewide initiative Sustainable CT.
  • Fire Department News: New deputy chief and firefighters were sworn into the City of West Haven Fire Department Allingtown by Mayor Dorinda Borer. The Fire Department Historical Library is also offering a 2025 Christmas ornament featuring the James C. Woodman Fire Boat. 

Crime & Public Safety

  • Arrests Made: A New Haven man was charged in a wrong-way crash on I-95 in West Haven. In a separate incident, an 18-year-old West Haven resident was arrested after allegedly fighting with police during a shoplifting bust.
  • Vehicle Incidents: A moped operator suffered serious injuries in a crash on Derby Avenue after being struck by a driver who ran a red light. Additionally, two people were arrested in a stolen vehicle case after turning onto a dead-end street while trying to evade police.
  • Animal Sightings: Police received reports of coyote sightings near West Haven High School, urging residents to be aware.
