West Haven Local News

  • Shots Fired Incident: West Haven Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Marginal Drive and Orlando Street late Friday evening. Several spent shell casings were located, but there were no initial reports of any victims with gunshot wounds.
  • Illegal Cockfighting Bust: Seven individuals from Connecticut and New York were arrested in connection with a large-scale illegal cockfighting event that police busted in West Haven the previous week. More than 30 roosters were seized during the operation.
  • Motor Vehicle Accident: On Friday afternoon, West Haven Fire Department, Police, and EMS responded to a two-vehicle crash on Saw Mill Road where three occupants were evaluated for possible injuries.
  • City News: The City of West Haven was recently awarded Bronze-level certification for sustainability by the statewide initiative Sustainable CT. Other recent updates include the installation of new granite panels at the West Haven Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the opening of new local businesses.

  • Black Friday Shopping: Crowds were reported at area malls, including the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford and Westfarms Mall, suggesting a strong turnout for in-person holiday shopping on Black Friday.
  • New Haven Gun Arrests: Over a two-day period, New Haven police made three gun-related arrests, including one at Tweed Airport where TSA discovered two "ghost guns" in a carry-on bag.
  • Thanksgiving Events: Across Connecticut, various organizations hosted Thanksgiving dinners and events, including an event for hundreds of veterans at the Aqua Turf Club and a food and diaper drive held by Pat Kelly in New Haven.
