Seven Arrested in Large-Scale Cockfighting Bust
West Haven police arrested seven individuals from Connecticut and New York after discovering a large-scale, illegal cockfighting ring on Saturday, November 22, in a building on Front Avenue. Officers, responding to an anonymous tip, found over 100 people gathered around a makeshift wooden fighting ring; many fled upon police arrival. More than 30 live roosters and several dead roosters were seized from the scene, which reportedly involved gambling and the sale of food and beer.
Demolition Underway at the Former Debonair Motel
Demolition has begun at the site of the long-standing, dilapidated Debonair Beach Motel to make way for new upscale development. Mayor Dorinda Borer held a news conference on November 18 to mark the start of the project.
